Whether it was England winning the world cup in 1966, watching Pele and the great Brazilian player win in 1970 or seeing the mighty Liverpool stage the greatest comeback in football history in 2005 against Milan I have not missed a big match. Now I am enjoying the incredible Barcelona team who have to the strongest club side ever.

The first world cup was held in Uruguay in 1930 and was won by the hosts who have just won Copa America. Since then there have been some amazing tournaments, and we loved the Spanish performances in South Africa. It is always good to see the top teams win. And there is no better team than the next hosts, Brazil, who hold the record for the most wins with five including their first triumph in 1958 and most recently in 2002.
Following is the full list of winners of the World cup from the start to South Africa 2010 as we begin the preparation for the 2012 tournament in beautiful Brazil.

2010 Spain beat the Netherlands 1-0 and thoroughly deserved to be crowned as world champions. No team was more dominant since the great teams of Maradona in 1986 and Pele in 1970. Not just Spanish fans but football lovers from all over the world must have been delighted to see the wonderful Spanish players like Iniesta, Xavi, Puyol and Villa lift the trophy. As a Liverpool fan, I was happy to see Torres and Alonso get their medals. I also have great respect for Arsenal and it was fitting that Fabregas supplied the pass for Iniesta.
Now we look forward to Brazil in 2014. The wait for the tournament to return to this wonderful soccer nation has been long, sixty one years since 1950 and their shocking defeat by arch rivals Uruguay in the final. Millions of Brazilians will be praying that there is no repeat – especially loss to Uruguay and Argentina.
In many ways the World Cup is going home to Brazil. The game may have originated in Britain but the Brazilians have taken it to its highest form of expression and talent. In Brazil football is a religion. Think of all their great players – Pele, Garrincha, Jarizinho, Rivelino, Zico, Socrates, Romario, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Kaka and Ronaldinho to name a few.
Most soccer fans have Brazil as their second favourite team if their own team fails to win because they play the way all of us love – direct, attacking and with amazing flair and finesses.
The 2014 finals will be a great party, a celebration of the joy of football. The fans will create a Rio like carnival and if you are going to attend one tournament in your life, surely this is the one to go to! If Brazil win, and they must be favourites, you can take part in the biggest party Brazil, and maybe the world, has ever seen. What a perfect experience!
